TECHNOLOGIE REGION ILMENAU ARNSTADT - Regional classification
ILMENAU ARNSTADT TECHNOLOGY REGION is part of the Thuringian Technology Triangle Erfurt - Jena - Ilmenau which is known far beyond the Thuringian borders.
It is the core area of "Campus - Thüringen" with Erfurt University, the Bauhaus University Weimar, the Liszt School of Music in Weimar, TU Ilmenau, the Friedrich Schiller University in Jena, the technical colleges in Erfurt, Jena, Nordhausen and Schmalkalden as well as the cooperative educational institutions in Gera and Eisenach.
Along with at least 60 research centres - among them Max Planck and Fraunhofer - as well as about 20 technology and founder centres, it characterises the research landscape in Thuringia with internationally renowned contributions for example in Climatology, Genetics or Laser Physics.
The Ethics Center forges links between Humanities and Natural Sciences.
In order to be comparable, competitive and internationally recognised along regions such as Munich, Stuttgart or the Rhine-Main-area, co-operations with the states of Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt within the "Initiative Mitteldeutschland" are undertaken whenever useful and practicable.
Nevertheless, ILMENAU ARNSTADT TECHNOLOGY REGION also comprises a regional development concept, a development offer, which points to the future and backs on creativity, togetherness, public spirit and the harmony of economy, ecology, social interests and sustainability.
It is an open concept that does not know any borders and goes far beyond them.
